This simple DIY pegboard can help you organize just about anything. From the kids' rooms to the kitchen, it keeps the things you need within reach without the clutter. You can use the pegs as hooks or rest items on the shelves. It's a smart and simple way to keep things tidy.

Materials & Tools

  • Piece of 20 inch x 25 inch, 1⁄2 inch thick A/C fir wood
  • T-square ruler
  • Pencil
  • 10 1⁄4 inch x 3 inch wood dowels
  • Drill with 1⁄4 inch bit
  • Two 27 inch and two 20 inch pieces of 1 inch x 1 inch poplar or pine wood for framing
  • 120 grit sandpaper
  • Rubber hammer
  • Four 1/4 inch wood pieces for the shelves, cut to desired length (our example uses maple)



  • Wood stain or paint can add a little polish and pop.
  • You can also scale this project up to be as large as you want.
  • You could make the whole piece bigger or you could just increase the number of pegs and shelves.
  • If you don't have a saw at home, just buy all of your supplies at your local lumber store and ask them to cut it all to size for you.
